I know, I know....where's Auntie Em? Well, this is another farm memory from about 25 years ago. Hot, humid August afternoon/evening, my parents were gone to an anniversay party, my older sister and I were home (we were college age). I had just gotten back from town with a pizza and we were sitting down to watch the world premiere of "Return to Gilligan's Island". Hey!!! We didn't have cable, just had 3 channels. Anyway, a warning comes across the TV that a tornado had been spotted 10 miles northwest of Clinton, IA. Well, we lived 10 miles WEST of Clinton. So, we stepped out the front door and there it was. Still coming down and just touching ground. The twister was actually about 3 miles north of us, I ran and got the camera and snapped the first shot from my bedroom window. Then went back outside to snap a series of shots, the clouds above us looked liked boiling, black water. Very spooky! The twister did do some damage to a couple of farms. Picked one house apart, all that was left was the refrigerator. Stripped the trees, path of cornfield was gone, cornstalks were wrapped tightly around fenceline, even found a pickup/truck inside a grain bin. Luckily, no one was injured!!
